Description
Opened March 16, 2013, the baseball complex at Kansas City Kansas Community College ranks right with the nation’s best facilities.
“From people who know, we’ve been told it rivals many NCAA Division I facilities and for a community college complex, it would be tough to beat,” says Steve Burleson, KCKCC’s head coach for the past 35 years and only one of three coaches in the Jayhawk Conference to have more than 1,000 wins.
The complex stands alone in the conference in boasting a clubhouse immediately adjacent to the home dugout. Features of the clubhouse include 40 lockers, laundry and shower facilities, three offices housing five coaches, WI-FI and an Apple TV system for video study.
Umpires are also provided their own dressing room.
Part of a $4 million baseball, soccer and track renovation, there’s also a concession stand and rest room facilities at the entrance to the complex. There’s seating for 300 in the bleachers, which also boasts a state of the art public address system.
The baseball field has artificial turf on the infield and in foul territory; natural grass in the outfield. It’s 400 feet to dead centerfield and 385 in the power alleys before dipping to 290 feet down the foul lines. Dugouts are 60 feet in length with infrared heating. The playing complex also includes three 80x15 batting cages, four bullpen mounds, four crossover symmetry stations for pitchers and 10,000 square feet of practice area on artificial turf.
In addition to serving as the home field for the Blue Devil baseball team, the complex is used for two weeklong youth baseball camps in the summer, high school recruiting tournaments each weekend, men’s league games and youth programs as a practice facility.
